Seeing a need for compassionate elder care in North Whatcom County, a group of Lynden churchgoers got together in 1956 to found Christian Health Care Center.
Sixty years later, some things have changed, and some things remain the same.
The physical location is different; the facility moved into a new building at 855 Aaron Drive in Lynden in 2001.
The local nonprofit health care center’s size has changed, too, as it now employs 220 staff members (a huge number for north Whatcom County!).
And in 2015, CHCC stepped in to save a community resource when PeaceHealth St. Joseph Hospital closed its adult day health program in Bellingham—the only program of its kind in Whatcom County. Christian Health Care Center now runs Northwest Adult Day Health next to its Lynden facility, offering activities for the elderly and respite for their caregivers.
As you might expect, though, the values of the organization and the high level of care delivered are the same today as they were 60 years ago. The nonprofit (note: they’re here to care for people, not to make a buck) skilled nursing facility still provides loving, compassionate care consistent with the Christian principles on which it was founded. And it’s open to everyone, regardless of race, sex or religion.
What does CHCC stand for? Comprehensive and quality nursing care,
for starters. Check out their full mission here.
Thousands of seniors have called Christian Health Care Center home over the past few decades.
On June 29, 2016, the center celebrates its milestone birthday with a community barbecue. They’d love to see you there! Christian Health Care Center has been blessed these past many years to be surrounded by a wonderful community, and they’re hoping that community can help them kick off another 60 years — or more! — in Lynden.
It all takes place from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 29. Brief remarks will be followed by a whole lot of delicious food. Stop by, eat and check out the many wonderful services that CHCC has to offer!
RSVP’s are welcome and appreciated. Drop them a line at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 360-354-4434 before June 26 to let them know you’re coming.
